I’m sure you already know that whatever you post on social media websites is going to be visible by anyone – including your potential employer.
In 2011, online reputation management company Reppler conducted a survey of 300 people who are part of their respective company’s hiring processes, asking them questions about how important social media is to the job hunt.

The shocking news is – only 5% of employers said they don’t use social media to screen their candidates. i.e. whatever you put on your LinkedIn, Facebook, etc, is very likely going to impact your chance of getting hired.
Another interesting fact is that a lot of the employers using social media look for the negatives of a candidate on Facebook, while they will look for the positives, such as professional profile, awards and references on LinkedIn. That means job hunters will be better off hiding their drunken photos from Facebook (I know it’s not always easy when your friends posted them up), and start polishing their LinkedIn profiles.
